What to Expect on Your First Visit
For new patients, the following is a visual guide as to what to expect on your first visit to see our retina associates. Click on a link to the below to view each step.
Note: You can expect to be with us for a total of 1-2 hours during your first appointment.
Step 1: Check In
Arrive at Back of the Eye MD (Get Directions). Check in at the front desk with the receptionist (retina associates) and present your insurance card. You will need to fill out some easy health history and general information forms. A technician will review these forms with you. |
|
Step 2: Dilation of Pupils
Most often, eye drops will be administered which will dilate your pupils. This painless step will blur your vision for about 3 to 4 hours. |
|
Step 3: Doctor’s Exam
The doctor will perform a complete examination and any testing which may be necessary. |
|
Step 4: Exam Results
The doctor will discuss her findings and recommendations with you, as well as answer your questions. Set your next appointment with the receptionist and our retina associates. |

- Copay via cash or check
- Current Prescription Eyeglasses
- Current Prescription Sunglasses
- List of current medications
Note: If you do not have prescription sunglasses, bring the sunglasses you normally wear. Eyes may be sensitive to sunlight. You may want to make arrangements for someone to drive you home.
Please call 24 hours in advance if you will miss your appointment or need to change it.
If you have preschool child care needs, please call our office in advance to speak with our retina associates to make arrangements.
After Your First Appointment:
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the eye drops which will dilate the pupils of your eyes, you are very likely to be sensitive to sunlight or any light. We strongly suggest that you bring sunglasses and consider bringing a driver if necessary.
